rewind

Instead of sleeping, I just spent the last hour rereading blog posts from the last two and half years.  I will have to say I was way funnier when I first started teaching!  I am thinking about making the blog into a book.  I know very few people have actually ever read a single post, but I think my experience will be good to have for the future.  What neat and absolutely crazy memories.

MIA

I have been missing in action from this blog for a while.  The past nine, now almost eleven weeks of school have been crazy but GOOD!  The boys have grown so much!
Lets just say Autism and the idea of being nonverbal have taken a big kick in the butt from my kiddos these past few months.
For a class that was suppose to be nonverbal you have the kid who won't stop asking for what he wants and even adds a dramatic please to the end of his request.  You also have the kid who has been eating crayons coloring very nicely in art class...now if Miss Galvin could figure out Ms. Lori's magic trick.  You also have a "nonverbal kid" singing to the morning songs.  He keeps up very nicely in the alphabet till about I and gets to about 12 in his numbers.  He also counted in Spanish for me one morning.  Fourth, you have the boy who does all the car sounds from his favorite song and has a favorite word of "huh?".   Last but not least you have the boy who looked at a poster of Garfield and said "cat"!
Oh, two days of conferences here I come.

Day 1 is down!

What a great first day of school!  I still feel bad for my poor student who rode the bus from home to Nodland to Sunnyside and back to Nodland...  I have a great group of Kindergartners this year and two amazing paras!  My kids sat very nicely for the rules assembly.

Yippee for Facebook

The school district decided the other night that teachers can have facebook profiles for their classrooms - a great idea considering how frustrating the current district website editor is.  The only down side is facebook does not allow Miss for a first name.  Originally I had Missy as my first name, but that was to close to actually being my first name and I thought it might confuse some people.  I hope this may be another way to communicate with the parents of my students.
After this weekend, my summer is officially over!  I am excited for the kiddos to come on Thursday!

Four is the number of the day!

There are only four days left of summer school!  I have a feeling this coming week will go by super fast as I am teaching in the classroom that has the students who will be in my classroom this fall.

My lil girl turns four years old this weekend!  Who would have thought she was only two when I began working with her!  One of her new words is Barbie!  We went to the store tonight and she picked out a baby to have at Miranda's house as part of her birthday gift.

Funny Summer School Story

I am teaching summer school with a group of boys that have ASD.  One of the boys has been putting a smile on my face the past few days!  He proceeded to walk up to our college helper and fix her shirt which at the time was not touching her jeans.  He then gave her a hug and walked away!  Take that Autism!

New start

I have accepted a new position at Nodland Elementary School as a Kindergarten teacher for students with severe to profound intellectual disabilities.  I am pumped as this is my ideal job I have been wanting since high school, but also nervous at the same time.
